A near gray, with almost no warmth. LRV is light reflectance value, the share of light a surface sends back, the same scale paint makers print on every chip: 0 is black, 100 is white.

It is calm and even from board to board (a spread of 1.3 in L*), so it reads as one quiet plane.

Light reflectance of the floor and its paintsOn a scale from 0 (black) to 100 (white), the floor sits at 61. Walls at 93. Trim at 86. Deep note at 8. The shaded band is within 30 points of the floor, where a wall would blur into it.0255075100Deep note 8Floor 61Trim 86Walls 93

The shaded band is within 30 points of the floor. A wall inside it blurs into the floor; BS 8300 asks for at least 30 points between surfaces that meet.

Wood, rugs and metals

Contrast, not a match.

Wood furniture

A step darker: a light natural woodAbout 21 points darker than the floor (L*), far enough to read as a choice. Like our Silvered Gray stain sample.
A step lighter: black or painted piecesThe floor is lighter than any wood stain we photographed, so contrast comes from black, painted or upholstered pieces.

Rugs and fabric

Tone on tone: pewterThe floor's own warmth at half the strength, 34 points darker.
Across the wheel: slate blueThe opposite side of the color wheel from the floor, softened, to balance it.
Grounding: smokeA deep note 30 points from the floor, so a rug keeps its edge.

Metals

ChromeA cool, bright metal that suits a gray floor.
Matte blackBlack works with every undertone and gives a light room its outline.

Questions

About Romano Cement and color, answered from the numbers above.

What wall color goes with Romano Cement flooring?

High Reflective White (Sherwin-Williams SW 7757, LRV 92.7): a clean neutral (chroma 3.1) that keeps a gray floor crisp. It sits 32 LRV points from the floor (LRV 61), more than the 30 points that keep a wall and a floor reading apart.

What trim and ceiling color goes with Romano Cement?

Extra White (Sherwin-Williams SW 7006, LRV 85.9): a clean white (chroma 2.6) that keeps a cool floor crisp.

What accent color goes with Romano Cement?

Hale Navy (Benjamin Moore HC-154, LRV 8.4): deep and quiet, 52 points darker than the floor in LRV, a frame for a gray floor. Lower cabinets or an island in Hale Navy, uppers and trim in Extra White. The floor at LRV 61 sits between the two (8 and 86).

What wood furniture goes with Romano Cement?

Contrast, not a match: a step darker: a light natural wood (like our Silvered Gray stain sample), or a step lighter: black or painted pieces.

Is Romano Cement a light or a dark floor?

Very light: LRV 61 and L* 82, measured from its own picture, with almost no undertone. An LRV of 61 is very light: it bounces light back into the room, suits north facing rooms, basements and small rooms, and shows dark grit more than lint.

What colors should I avoid with Romano Cement?

Walls at the floor's own lightness: Palladian Blue (Benjamin Moore HC-144, LRV 60.4) sits within a point of this floor, so wall and floor would blur into one. Creamy or yellow whites: beside a gray floor they look dingy.

The room it suits

Light, size and wear, from the floor's own record.

An LRV of 61 is very light: it bounces light back into the room, suits north facing rooms, basements and small rooms, and shows dark grit more than lint.

At 18 inches a tile, a 12 foot room is about 8 tiles across.

Waterproof, so it belongs in kitchens, baths, mudrooms and basements as well as living spaces.

How we chose

Paint names, codes, hex and LRV as Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore publish them (each color links to its page).

BS 8300-2:2018 asks for a difference of at least 30 LRV points between adjacent surfaces, such as a floor and a wall, so the surfaces read apart.

The floor measured from its own picture in CIELAB (D65); the wood tones from our own photographs of 37 stains on oak.

A picture's lightness depends a little on how it was lit, so the floor's LRV is read from the evenly lit field the visualizer lays and rounded. See the real floor before you choose paint: visit the showroom, or ask for a free measure and estimate.
