Powell Flooring did an outstanding job refinishing my hardwood floors. We had significant humidity damage that left the boards badly warped, and the results were nothing short of amazing. They did an excellent job keeping dust to a minimum, and the finished floors look beautiful. One of the most impressive parts of the job was their attention to detail. Our floors have a custom stain color that needed to match the rest of the house. Even when I thought the color was a perfect match, Ryan continued going back to his truck to fine-tune the mixture until **he** was completely satisfied. That kind of pride in workmanship and commitment to getting things just right is something you don't see very often anymore. It's refreshing to find a company that genuinely cares about the quality of its work. I couldn't be happier with the results and would highly recommend Powell Flooring to anyone looking for exceptional craftsmanship and service.

Bill and his sons did a great job on replacing our damaged floors. We used a glue down laminate to work with my wheelchair as recommended by Bill. They had to add an unexpected layer of underlayment at a reasonable price. Overall we are very happy with the finished product.

We couldn’t be happier with the incredible work Powell Flooring did in our home. They truly transformed our old, worn-out floors into something that looks brand new. They also extended the white oak flooring into our kitchen and replaced boards in the old floor. From start to finish, Billy and his team were professional, knowledgeable, and took great pride in their craftsmanship. The attention to detail was outstanding, and the finished product exceeded our expectations. It’s amazing how much brighter and more beautiful our home looks because of their work. I cannot say enough good things! We had Powell out a few years ago to install a new wood floor and they did fantastic work, so when we had a new project we went back to them. They just installed flooring in my kitchen and laundry room and resealed the dining room wood floor. Our house had some complications and they problem solved and still finished the job on time and it looks better than I would have imagined. 100% recommend their work. Extremely professional, excellent work and trustworthy company!

Powell flooring has done an outstanding job on refinishing our wood flooring. Our floors are authentic to the original build and are well over 75 years old. They have certainly been through many generations of family living. They now look absolutely beautiful since Powell Flooring performed their services. Billy and his crew are professional, patient, knowledgeable, fairly priced, time efficient and pay extra attention to detail. Powell Flooring offered excellent customer service in helping us to make the right decisions that best suited the needs for our project. We absolutely highly recommend Powell Flooring for all of your flooring needs!!

Billy and the team at Powell Flooring did an exceptional job installing new wood floors in our new home. They were detail-oriented, responsive, and committed to getting the job done right. I truly appreciate their excellent service and highly recommend them. From advising the selection of the material and recommendation of natural vs engineered with reasons why one would be better for us. This type of service and attention truly deserves 5 star review. I can see why Powell maintains strong reviews overall which is how I found Powell when I was researching a flooring company for our new home.

I can’t recommend Powell Flooring enough. My wife and I needed about 400 square feet of flooring installed, and after a disappointing experience with a previous contractor, we reached out to Powell Flooring. They responded the same day—coming out that afternoon to assess the job and provided a quote later that evening. Pricing was very reasonable, considering the situation. We already had the flooring materials on hand from the prior contractor, and Powell Flooring had no issue working with what we had. Despite the flooring not being something they typically install and our subfloor being less than ideal, they handled it all with professionalism and skill. They began work the following Monday and delivered a flawless result. Their attention to detail, communication, and overall craftsmanship were outstanding. Looking back, I wish we had chosen them from the start. If you’re considering new floors, don’t hesitate to go with Powell Flooring—you’ll be glad you did.

I was tasked to actually completely renovate a home I purchased several years ago on my own. Everything seemed unfamiliar as I never had to be a general contractor myself. I called Powell flooring from the beginning because they were the only flooring company I had heard were reliable honest and trustworthy. From the beginning John at the office was hands on my project he assured me that they would handle every aspect of my job and that I did not need to worry about this portion of my rehab. Well needless to say this project dragged on due to paperwork and permits. John and the owner Bill called to follow up and assured me that they were ready as soon as I let them know. I appreciated that attention and did not feel forgotten. The process was so simple, I went into the office picked out the wood type and stain they came out and measured and sent me an estimate. Finally the day came to install Billy Powell himself came out to make sure everything was handled accordingly. The floors were installed and stained in a timely manor. This was the only contractor I did not have to worry if the job was not done right! The floors are gorgeous and the company is great! Friendly reliable companies are hard to come by but they made the flooring part of my project the most exciting! A total transformation! I very highly recommend this company and thank Billy Powell and John for guiding me through the whole process! Thank you Powell Flooring !!

Powell flooring did an incredible job in our 90 year old house. They had to deal with imperfections and transitions to rooms that were interconnected. They had great ideas, came when they promised, were neat, organized and respectful. I highly recommend going to them if you know what you want or if you don't .

I was introduced to Powell Flooring by two close friends who spoke highly of Powell’s ability to create a shade and color of stain to match an existing pre stained hardwood. Powell had to match the new stair treads and bullnose to an existing floor. And did just that, Perfectly. Bill the owner and his son were really helpful. Everyone we spoke with at Powell were SUPER nice people and very skilled.

Couldn't be happier; Billy and his crew went out of their way to finish our floors and stairs (despite having bigger jobs already on their plate) in time for us to bring our newborn home from the hospital. Stairs took longer than they anticipated, but they stuck to the original price quote instead of charging us more. The floors and stairs are absolutely beautiful; we would never use anyone else.

We used Powell Flooring to repair and refinish floors in 2 bedrooms. Billy came in person to do the estimate, and he and his sons did the work. They got the job done in 2 days, and the floors are beautiful! You have to look closely to see where the floor was patched. They also communicated well with me throughout the job to make sure I was ok with any changes to our initial plan. The only reason for 4 stars is that some shoe moulding installed wasn't perfectly stained to match the existing moulding in the rooms—a small part of the job, and overall, I'm happy with the work.

Reply from Powell FlooringEdited 2 years ago, as of Oct 15, 2026

Hi Nathan, thank you for your honest review. I'm sorry to hear the moulding didn't take the stain as well as the flooring. They are different species of wood which is likely the cause. If it needs to be addressed, please contact us at 973-728-9717.

The oak flooring that Billy and his sons installed transformed our home. We needed our first floor and stairs to second floor refinished, and flooring installed in an adjacent room; it was a perfect match when it was all done. Initially, we spoke with Jon at the store who patiently answered our questions and set us up with Billy for measuring and installation. The team came on time, did what they promised (and more). Billy took the extra time to make sure the transitions looked great. We couldn't be happier with the outcome, and will ask them back to do our kitchen floor next year. Great local business to support, quality materials and craftsmanship. Thank you! Pat and Russ

Ryan and the guys were great. They showed up on time and worked carefully and neatedly to restore our Kitchen floor to its former glory. Price was very fair. No surprises and no up charges. And most importantly, they always answered the phone! Even for the smallest questions. The floor looks Beautiful!

I just called to get a consultation and arrange hardwood installation. The guy who picked up was very weird and rude. In any renovation business, it’s typical to call and compare prices, especially if you’re doing a project on a large scale. This guy wouldn’t share any info, like his business is confidential, and I was asking about estimates, obviously no one signs a blank check and leave it for seller to put any price he wants. I had to deal with this guy’s insecurities, and see how much of a loser he is. This guy asked if I’m trying to collect information, or that I work for somebody. Like really, disrespectful? FYI, I called 2 more people and they happily cooperated. Besides that some places like Home Depot have their prices posted on walls and posters, that’s how simple it is to run a business. Definitely 0 star for this weirdo. Wish I hadn’t made that phone call.

Hi Roba, I'm sorry you had a bad experience. We generally do not quote prices over the phone unless it is for a specific flooring product. For many products, we do have price tags on the displays in our showroom. For sanding & refinishing floors, it is best for someone to visit your home, take measurements, and evaluate the condition of your floors before quoting a price. Again, I apologize that you had an unpleasant experience, and that we were not able to quote you exact prices over the phone. I am happy that you found a solution for your floors.

Powell Flooring is amazing! So helpful and patient with choosing the right material, style and size of our new wood floors for our entire first floor. They were on time every day and even took the extra step to make sure the house was safe for our two small children each night when they left. Our floors are so beautiful and even exceeded my high expectations. I highly recommend Powell - they are true craftsmen with their work!

We could not be happier with our new flooring!! Powell came in and refinished our wood flooring in our dinning room and installed New flooring in our living. You cannot tell where the old meets the new floor and it all looks brand new. The job was done quickly, in just a few days and we were able to walk on the floors almost immediately due to the top coat that was used. With a family of 4 and a dog, this was Huge!! I would highly recommend Powell Flooring and we have plans on calling them again for future jobs.

We recently lost our dog and decided to replace the soiled carpet in our family room and living room with hard wood flooring. We always try to support our local businesses in town, and over the years we heard nothing but great reviews for Powell Flooring. Dealing with this family business was so easy, and there was never any pressure to hire them. They listened to what we wanted, and made some great suggestions to make the project come together. The price they quoted was fair, and they gave us several options in quality of the wood and sizes. They simply did what they promised, showed up on time, and were easy to communicate with. I would recommend Powell flooring to anyone who wants a quality job for a fair price.

From start to finish, the entire process with Powell Flooring was an enjoyable one. They patiently worked with me to achieve my desired floor size & color. I did a wider plank in my bedroom, added brand new wood flooring to my kitchen and hallway and refinished the existing floors throughout the rest of the house. The transition from the old floors to the new floors looks absolutely seamless. They gave me numerous options of floor coloring to make sure that I was getting the exact color I wanted. Aside from being extremely professional, they are able to get the job done in a timely manner with perfection! if you are looking to re-do your wood flooring, I highly recommend using Powell Flooring! Thank you to the entire Powell Flooring team for transforming my wood floors.
