Why people choose Superior

  • Many colors in one wood. Red oak alone comes in more than a hundred Superior colors and finishes across its widths, so the shade you have in mind is likely there.
  • The finish named in the color. Low sheen, semi-gloss or matte, and wire brushed or hand scraped where the board has a texture.
  • Widths for any house. From 2-1/4 inch strip to 7 inch plank.
  • Its own engineered build. Enhanced is Superior's own engineered construction, beside its standard engineered and its 3/4 inch solid.

The floors

Solid hardwood

3/4 inch boards in red oak, white oak, maple, hickory and ash, in Premier, Heritage and Select maple, from 2-1/4 to 4-3/4 inches wide, and the Legacy grade white oak at 5 inches.

Engineered and Enhanced

Real wood on a stable core, for wider boards and for concrete slabs: Superior's engineered lines run about 5-3/16 to 7 inches wide, and its Enhanced lines 6 and 7 inches, in Premier, Heritage and Select maple.

Each Superior color name carries its finish, such as Natural low sheen or Biscotti hand scraped, so two colors with one stain can still look different underfoot.

How we install it

Superior solid boards up to 4-3/4 inches wide are nailed to a wood subfloor. Solid boards 5 inches and wider we nail and glue, or glue alone on a slab, because a wide solid board moves more with the seasons. Solid boards go on the main floor and above, never below ground. Engineered and Enhanced boards are stapled to a wood subfloor or glued to a concrete slab. Wood takes on the moisture of the air around it, so a floor needs time in the house before it goes down.

Living with it

A broom, a vacuum without a beater bar and a hardwood cleaner, never a wet mop. A wire brushed or hand scraped surface hides everyday wear better than a smooth one, and a matte or low sheen finish shows less than a semi-gloss.

Questions

Where is Superior hardwood made? In Rockwood, Ontario, Canada.

What are Superior's grades? Premier, Select, Heritage and Legacy, each sorting the boards by how much natural character they show. A sample shows the grade far better than a description, so order one before you choose.

What is Superior Enhanced? Superior's own engineered construction, sold beside its standard engineered boards.

Can a 4-3/4 inch solid Superior floor be nailed alone? Yes. We nail solid boards up to 4-3/4 inches; at 5 inches and wider we add glue.

What warranty does Superior give? It depends on the line and its finish. Ask us for Superior's own warranty for the floor you choose; it governs.
