# Zawn Oak in a warm modern room

Zawn Oak, from the COREtec CT HD 7x60 INTG line, is a mid tone vinyl plank with a golden undertone (measured from its own picture: LRV 27). Here it is with Gray Owl walls, Swiss Coffee trim and Still Water as the deep note, chosen by the numbers.

## Measured from its own picture

- Zawn Oak has a gentle movement from board to board (a spread of 1.8 in L*): calm, but not flat.

## Paint
- Walls: Gray Owl (Benjamin Moore OC-52, LRV 64.5, +37.2 from the floor). A soft neutral with a touch of warmth (hue 115°), so Zawn Oak stays golden without turning yellow. Source: https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-colors/color/oc-52/gray-owl
- Or walls: Dover White (Sherwin-Williams SW 6385, LRV 82.5, +55.2 from the floor). A soft neutral with a touch of warmth (hue 93°), so Zawn Oak stays golden without turning yellow. Source: https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/white-paint-colors/sw6385-dover-white/
- Trim and ceilings: Swiss Coffee (Benjamin Moore OC-45, LRV 81.9). 55 points over Zawn Oak in LRV and warm enough (chroma 5.7) to read white, not blue, beside its golden undertone. Source: https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-colors/color/oc-45/swiss-coffee
- Deep note: Still Water (Sherwin-Williams SW 6223, LRV 10.1). Deep and cool, about 137° around the color wheel from Zawn Oak and 17 points darker in LRV, so each makes the other look richer. Source: https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/blue-paint-colors/sw6223-still-water/
- Lower cabinets or an island in Still Water, uppers and trim in Swiss Coffee. The floor at LRV 27 sits between the two (10 and 82).

## Wood, rugs and metals
- Wood a step darker: a mid brown wood, like our Chestnut stain sample. About 21 points darker than Zawn Oak in L* (38 against 59), far enough to read as a choice.
- Wood a step lighter: a pale, bleached wood, like our Country White stain sample. About 13 points lighter than Zawn Oak in L* (72 against 59).
- Rug or fabric, tone on tone: linen (#e8d8c9). 10 in chroma, half the warmth of Zawn Oak (22), and 28 points lighter in L*.
- Rug or fabric, across the wheel: graphite (#445562). Hue 251°, straight across the color wheel from the 71° of Zawn Oak, softened to balance it.
- Rug or fabric, grounding: walnut brown (#4d433a). A deep note at L* 29, 30 points from the 59 of Zawn Oak, so a rug keeps its edge.
- Metal: aged brass. A warm metal that agrees with the golden undertone of Zawn Oak (hue 71°).
- Metal: unlacquered brass. Left unsealed, it darkens with handling to a softer warm tone beside Gray Owl walls.
- Metal: matte black. Black works with every undertone; beside Zawn Oak at LRV 27 it gives the room its outline.

## Room by room
- Living room: Gray Owl walls and Swiss Coffee trim around Zawn Oak, a linen rug with a walnut brown border, a coffee table in a mid brown wood, aged brass lamps.
- Kitchen: Still Water on the island or the lower cabinets, Swiss Coffee uppers, unlacquered brass pulls, Zawn Oak underfoot.
- Bedroom: Dover White walls, bedding in linen with one graphite pillow, nightstands in a pale, bleached wood.
- Entry: A walnut brown runner on Zawn Oak, Still Water on the front door, a matte black mirror.

## What to avoid
- Walls at the lightness of Zawn Oak: Evergreen Fog (Sherwin-Williams SW 9130, LRV 30.4) sits 3 points from its LRV of 27, so wall and floor would blur into one.
- Wood that almost matches Zawn Oak: a tone like our Silvered Gray sample, 2.8 apart (CIEDE2000), reads as a near miss. Go clearly darker or lighter.
- Walls that lean yellow: yellow on yellow flattens the golden undertone of Zawn Oak (hue 71°).

## The room it suits
- At LRV 27, Zawn Oak is a mid tone: it holds its color in a sunny room and hides everyday dust and pet hair better than a very dark or very light floor.
- At 7 inches a board, Zawn Oak lays about 21 boards across a 12 foot room, so the room reads open with few seams.
- Zawn Oak is waterproof, so it belongs in kitchens, baths, mudrooms and basements as well as living spaces.
- Wear layer: 20 mil (about 0.51 mm of clear protection over the printed wood, the part that takes the traffic)
- Core: WPC, a wood plastic composite core (a little softer and quieter underfoot)
- Finish: UV Acrylic
- Water: Waterproof (the maker's word) (wet mopping is fine; a flood is not)

- Paint names, codes, hex and LRV as Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore publish them (each color links to its page).
- BS 8300-2:2018 asks for a difference of at least 30 LRV points between adjacent surfaces, such as a floor and a wall, so the surfaces read apart.
