# Yukon White wire brushed in a traditional room

Yukon White wire brushed, from the Superior Heritage Solid White Oak 4-1/4 in line, is a mid tone white oak hardwood with an amber undertone (measured from its own picture: LRV 23). Picture it with Edgecomb Gray walls, Greek Villa trim, and Cascades as the deep note, chosen by the numbers.

## Measured from its own picture
- LRV (light reflectance value, 0 black to 100 white): 23
- CIELAB (D65): L* 55.3, a* 7.9, b* 17.1, chroma 18.8, hue 65.1 degrees
- Undertone: an amber undertone, warm and a little orange
- Yukon White wire brushed is calm and even from board to board (a spread of 1.7 in L*), so it reads as one quiet plane.

## Paint
- Walls: Edgecomb Gray (Benjamin Moore HC-173, LRV 63.1, +39.8 from the floor). Its undertone leans green (hue 94°), which quiets the orange in Yukon White wire brushed (hue 65°) instead of echoing it. Source: https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-colors/color/hc-173/edgecomb-gray
- Or walls: Sea Salt (Sherwin-Williams SW 6204, LRV 63.2, +39.9 from the floor). Its undertone leans green (hue 133°), which quiets the orange in Yukon White wire brushed (hue 65°) instead of echoing it. - Trim and ceilings: Greek Villa (Sherwin-Williams SW 7551, LRV 84.2). 61 points over Yukon White wire brushed in LRV and warm enough (chroma 5.3) to read white, not blue, beside its amber undertone. - Deep note: Cascades (Sherwin-Williams SW 7623, LRV 4.2). Deep and cool, about 133° around the color wheel from Yukon White wire brushed and 19 points darker in LRV, so each makes the other look richer. - Lower cabinets or an island in Cascades, uppers and trim in Greek Villa. The floor at LRV 23 sits between the two (4 and 84).

## Wood, rugs and metals
- Wood a step darker: a charcoal wood, like our Heritage Brown stain sample. About 21 points darker than Yukon White wire brushed in L* (35 against 55), far enough to read as a choice.
- Wood a step lighter: a pale, bleached wood, like our Country White stain sample. About 16 points lighter than Yukon White wire brushed in L* (72 against 55).
- Rug or fabric, tone on tone: oatmeal (#ddcdc1). 8 in chroma, half the warmth of Yukon White wire brushed (19), and 28 points lighter in L*.
- Rug or fabric, across the wheel: graphite (#394c58). Hue 245°, straight across the color wheel from the 65° of Yukon White wire brushed, softened to balance it.
- Rug or fabric, grounding: charcoal (#443a33). A deep note at L* 25, 30 points from the 55 of Yukon White wire brushed, so a rug keeps its edge.
- Metal: unlacquered brass. A warm metal that agrees with the amber undertone of Yukon White wire brushed (hue 65°).
- Metal: aged brass. A second warm metal in a worn finish, so the brass beside Edgecomb Gray walls never looks new and loud.
- Metal: matte black. Black works with every undertone; beside Yukon White wire brushed at LRV 23 it gives the room its outline.

## Room by room
- Living room: Edgecomb Gray walls, Greek Villa trim and crown, a patterned rug in graphite and charcoal on Yukon White wire brushed, furniture in a charcoal wood, unlacquered brass lamps.
- Kitchen: Cascades on the island, Greek Villa cabinets, aged brass knobs, Yukon White wire brushed underfoot.
- Dining room: Sea Salt walls, a table in a charcoal wood, chairs in oatmeal, an unlacquered brass chandelier.
- Bedroom: Edgecomb Gray walls, oatmeal bedding, a graphite throw, nightstands in a pale, bleached wood.

## What to avoid
- Walls at the lightness of Yukon White wire brushed: Retreat (Sherwin-Williams SW 6207, LRV 20.9) sits 2 points from its LRV of 23, so wall and floor would blur into one.
- Wood that almost matches Yukon White wire brushed: a tone like our Rustic Beige sample, 1.1 apart (CIEDE2000), reads as a near miss. Go clearly darker or lighter.
- Pink or peach beige walls: they pull more orange out of the amber undertone of Yukon White wire brushed (hue 65°).

## The room it suits
- At LRV 23, Yukon White wire brushed is a mid tone: it holds its color in a sunny room and hides everyday dust and pet hair better than a very dark or very light floor.
- At 4.25 inches a board, Yukon White wire brushed lays about 34 boards across a 12 foot room.
- Solid hardwood: living spaces and bedrooms above grade, kept out of baths and basements.
- Hardness: White oak: Janka 1,360 lbf (the force to press a steel ball halfway into the wood; a higher number dents less under heels and chair legs)
- Construction: Solid (one piece of wood top to bottom, sanded and refinished for decades)
- Finish: Prefinished

- BS 8300-2:2018 asks for a difference of at least 30 LRV points between adjacent surfaces, such as a floor and a wall, so the surfaces read apart.
