# Weathered Oak in a warm modern room

Weathered Oak from the COREtec Restored Era line is a mid tone vinyl plank with an amber undertone (measured from its own picture: LRV 24). It pairs here with Cloud White walls, Greek Villa trim, and Hale Navy as the deep note, chosen by the numbers.

## Measured from its own picture
- LRV (light reflectance value, 0 black to 100 white): 24
- CIELAB (D65): L* 56.3, a* 10.5, b* 19.9, chroma 22.5, hue 62.2 degrees
- Undertone: an amber undertone, warm and a little orange
- Weathered Oak has a gentle movement from board to board (a spread of 2.0 in L*): calm, but not flat.

## Paint
- Walls: Cloud White (Benjamin Moore OC-130, LRV 85.1, +60.8 from the floor). Its undertone leans green (hue 106°), which quiets the orange in Weathered Oak (hue 62°) instead of echoing it. Source: https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-colors/color/oc-130/cloud-white
- Or walls: Sea Salt (Sherwin-Williams SW 6204, LRV 63.2, +38.9 from the floor). Its undertone leans green (hue 133°), which quiets the orange in Weathered Oak (hue 62°) instead of echoing it. Source: https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/green-paint-colors/sw6204-sea-salt/
- Trim and ceilings: Greek Villa (Sherwin-Williams SW 7551, LRV 84.2). 60 points over Weathered Oak in LRV and warm enough (chroma 5.3) to read white, not blue, beside its amber undertone. Source: https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/white-paint-colors/sw7551-greek-villa/
- Deep note: Hale Navy (Benjamin Moore HC-154, LRV 8.4). Deep and cool, about 156° around the color wheel from Weathered Oak and 16 points darker in LRV, so each makes the other look richer. Source: https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-colors/color/hc-154/hale-navy
- Lower cabinets or an island in Hale Navy, uppers and trim in Greek Villa. The floor at LRV 24 sits between the two (8 and 84).

## Wood, rugs and metals
- Wood a step darker: a charcoal wood, like our Heritage Brown stain sample. About 22 points darker than Weathered Oak in L* (35 against 56), far enough to read as a choice.
- Wood a step lighter: a pale, bleached wood, like our Country White stain sample. About 15 points lighter than Weathered Oak in L* (72 against 56).
- Rug or fabric, tone on tone: oatmeal (#e2cfc2). 10 in chroma, half the warmth of Weathered Oak (23), and 28 points lighter in L*.
- Rug or fabric, across the wheel: graphite (#3b4f5a). Hue 242°, straight across the color wheel from the 62° of Weathered Oak, softened to balance it.
- Rug or fabric, grounding: chocolate (#483c34). A deep note at L* 26, 30 points from the 56 of Weathered Oak, so a rug keeps its edge.
- Metal: aged brass. A warm metal that agrees with the amber undertone of Weathered Oak (hue 62°).
- Metal: unlacquered brass. A warm metal that agrees with the amber undertone of Weathered Oak (hue 62°).
- Metal: matte black. Black works with every undertone; beside Weathered Oak at LRV 24 it gives the room its outline.

## What to avoid
- Walls at the lightness of Weathered Oak: Retreat (Sherwin-Williams SW 6207, LRV 20.9) sits 3 points from its LRV of 24, so wall and floor would blur into one.
- Wood that almost matches Weathered Oak: a tone like our Weathered Oak sample, 1.1 apart (CIEDE2000), reads as a near miss. Go clearly darker or lighter.
- Pink or peach beige walls: they pull more orange out of the amber undertone of Weathered Oak (hue 62°).

## The room it suits
- At LRV 24, Weathered Oak is a mid tone: it holds its color in a sunny room and hides everyday dust and pet hair better than a very dark or very light floor.
- At 7 inches a board, Weathered Oak lays about 21 boards across a 12 foot room, so the room reads open with few seams.
- Weathered Oak is waterproof, so it belongs in kitchens, baths, mudrooms and basements as well as living spaces.
- Wear layer: 22 mil (about 0.56 mm of clear protection over the printed wood, the part that takes the traffic)
- Core: WPC, a wood plastic composite core (a little softer and quieter underfoot)
- Finish: UV Acrylic
- Water: Waterproof (the maker's word) (wet mopping is fine; a flood is not)

- Paint names, codes, hex and LRV as Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore publish them (each color links to its page).
- BS 8300-2:2018 asks for a difference of at least 30 LRV points between adjacent surfaces, such as a floor and a wall, so the surfaces read apart.
