# Tapestry in a modern farmhouse room

Tapestry from the Shaw Floors Castlewood Oak line is mid tone white oak hardwood with a golden undertone (LRV 33, measured from its own picture). Here it is with Silver Satin walls, Greek Villa trim, and Kendall Charcoal as the deep note, chosen by the numbers.

## Measured from its own picture
- LRV (light reflectance value, 0 black to 100 white): 33
- CIELAB (D65): L* 63.7, a* 8.4, b* 20.3, chroma 22, hue 67.5 degrees
- Undertone: a golden undertone, warm without leaning red
- Tapestry has a gentle movement from board to board (a spread of 2.7 in L*): calm, but not flat.

## Paint
- Walls: Silver Satin (Benjamin Moore OC-26, LRV 74.9, +42.4 from the floor). A soft neutral with a touch of warmth (hue 105°), so Tapestry stays golden without turning yellow. Source: https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-colors/color/oc-26/silver-satin
- Or walls: Dover White (Sherwin-Williams SW 6385, LRV 82.5, +50 from the floor). A soft neutral with a touch of warmth (hue 93°), so Tapestry stays golden without turning yellow. Source: https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/white-paint-colors/sw6385-dover-white/
- Trim and ceilings: Greek Villa (Sherwin-Williams SW 7551, LRV 84.2). 52 points over Tapestry in LRV and warm enough (chroma 5.3) to read white, not blue, beside its golden undertone. Source: https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/white-paint-colors/sw7551-greek-villa/
- Deep note: Kendall Charcoal (Benjamin Moore HC-166, LRV 14.6). Deep and quiet, 18 points darker than Tapestry in LRV, a frame for a golden floor. Source: https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-colors/color/hc-166/kendall-charcoal
- Lower cabinets or an island in Kendall Charcoal, uppers and trim in Greek Villa. The floor at LRV 33 sits between the two (15 and 84).

## Wood, rugs and metals
- Wood a step darker: a mid brown wood, like our Nutmeg stain sample. About 20 points darker than Tapestry in L* (43 against 64), far enough to read as a choice.
- Wood a step lighter: black or painted pieces. Tapestry is lighter than any wood stain we photographed (L* 64), so contrast comes from black, painted or upholstered pieces.
- Rug or fabric, tone on tone: walnut brown (#514438). 10 in chroma, half the warmth of Tapestry (22), and 34 points darker in L*.
- Rug or fabric, across the wheel: storm blue (#4e606c). Hue 248°, straight across the color wheel from the 68° of Tapestry, softened to balance it.
- Rug or fabric, grounding: mocha (#584d44). A deep note at L* 34, 30 points from the 64 of Tapestry, so a rug keeps its edge.
- Metal: matte black. Black works with every undertone; beside Tapestry at LRV 33 it gives the room its outline.
- Metal: aged brass. A warm metal that agrees with the golden undertone of Tapestry (hue 68°).
- Metal: unlacquered brass. Left unsealed, it darkens with handling to a softer warm tone beside Silver Satin walls.

## Room by room
- Living room: Silver Satin walls and Greek Villa trim, a walnut brown rug with a mocha edge on Tapestry, a coffee table in a mid brown wood.
- Kitchen: Kendall Charcoal on the island, Greek Villa cabinets above, matte black pulls, Tapestry underfoot.
- Dining room: A table in a mid brown wood on Tapestry, black or painted chairs, aged brass pendants.
- Bedroom: Dover White walls, walnut brown linen, a storm blue quilt, unlacquered brass on the lamps.

## What to avoid
- Walls at the lightness of Tapestry: Acacia Haze (Sherwin-Williams SW 9132, LRV 32.2) sits within a point of its LRV of 33, so wall and floor would blur into one.
- Wood that almost matches Tapestry: a tone like our Silvered Gray sample, 2.5 apart (CIEDE2000), reads as a near miss. Go clearly darker or lighter.
- Walls that lean yellow: yellow on yellow flattens the golden undertone of Tapestry (hue 68°).

## The room it suits
- At LRV 33, Tapestry is a mid tone: it holds its color in a sunny room and hides everyday dust and pet hair better than a very dark or very light floor.
- At 7.5 inches a board, Tapestry lays about 20 boards across a 12 foot room, so the room reads open with few seams.
- Engineered hardwood: living spaces and bedrooms on every level, kept out of full baths.
- Hardness: White oak: Janka 1,360 lbf (the force to press a steel ball halfway into the wood; a higher number dents less under heels and chair legs)
- Construction: Engineered (a real wood face over a stable core, so it moves less with the seasons)
