# Sirocca in a traditional room

Sirocca, from the Anderson Tuftex Revival Walnut Herringbone line, is a mid tone walnut hardwood with an amber undertone (measured from its own picture: LRV 23). Here it is with Revere Pewter walls, Greek Villa trim, and Cascades as the deep note, chosen by the numbers.

## Measured from its own picture
- LRV (light reflectance value, 0 black to 100 white): 23
- CIELAB (D65): L* 54.7, a* 9.8, b* 20.4, chroma 22.6, hue 64.4 degrees
- Undertone: an amber undertone, warm and a little orange
- The grain and color of Sirocca move from board to board (a spread of 3.2 in L*), which helps hide everyday wear.

## Paint
- Walls: Revere Pewter (Benjamin Moore HC-172, LRV 55.1, +32.5 from the floor). Its undertone leans green (hue 95°), which quiets the orange in Sirocca (hue 64°) instead of echoing it. Source: https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-colors/color/hc-172/revere-pewter
- Or walls: Sea Salt (Sherwin-Williams SW 6204, LRV 63.2, +40.6 from the floor). Its undertone leans green (hue 133°), which quiets the orange in Sirocca (hue 64°) instead of echoing it. Source: https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/green-paint-colors/sw6204-sea-salt/
- Trim and ceilings: Greek Villa (Sherwin-Williams SW 7551, LRV 84.2). 62 points over Sirocca in LRV and warm enough (chroma 5.3) to read white, not blue, beside its amber undertone. Source: https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/white-paint-colors/sw7551-greek-villa/
- Deep note: Cascades (Sherwin-Williams SW 7623, LRV 4.2). Deep and cool, about 133° around the color wheel from Sirocca and 18 points darker in LRV, so each makes the other look richer. Source: https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/green-paint-colors/sw7623-cascades/
- Lower cabinets or an island in Cascades, uppers and trim in Greek Villa. The floor at LRV 23 sits between the two (4 and 84).

## Wood, rugs and metals
- Wood a step darker: a charcoal wood, like our Heritage Brown stain sample. About 20 points darker than Sirocca in L* (35 against 55), far enough to read as a choice.
- Wood a step lighter: a pale, bleached wood, like our Country White stain sample. About 17 points lighter than Sirocca in L* (72 against 55).
- Rug or fabric, tone on tone: oatmeal (#decabd). 10 in chroma, half the warmth of Sirocca (23), and 28 points lighter in L*.
- Rug or fabric, across the wheel: graphite (#384b56). Hue 244°, straight across the color wheel from the 64° of Sirocca, softened to balance it.
- Rug or fabric, grounding: chocolate (#443930). A deep note at L* 25, 30 points from the 55 of Sirocca, so a rug keeps its edge.
- Metal: unlacquered brass. A warm metal that agrees with the amber undertone of Sirocca (hue 64°).
- Metal: aged brass. A second warm metal in a worn finish, so the brass beside Revere Pewter walls never looks new and loud.
- Metal: matte black. Black works with every undertone; beside Sirocca at LRV 23 it gives the room its outline.

## Room by room
- Living room: Revere Pewter walls, Greek Villa trim and crown, a patterned rug in graphite and chocolate on Sirocca, furniture in a charcoal wood, unlacquered brass lamps.
- Kitchen: Cascades on the island, Greek Villa cabinets, aged brass knobs, Sirocca underfoot.
- Dining room: Sea Salt walls, a table in a charcoal wood, chairs in oatmeal, an unlacquered brass chandelier.
- Bedroom: Revere Pewter walls, oatmeal bedding, a graphite throw, nightstands in a pale, bleached wood.

## What to avoid
- Walls at the lightness of Sirocca: Retreat (Sherwin-Williams SW 6207, LRV 20.9) sits 2 points from its LRV of 23, so wall and floor would blur into one.
- Wood that almost matches Sirocca: a tone like our Weathered Oak sample, 0.9 apart (CIEDE2000), reads as a near miss. Go clearly darker or lighter.
- Pink or peach beige walls: they pull more orange out of the amber undertone of Sirocca (hue 64°).

## The room it suits
- At LRV 23, Sirocca is a mid tone: it holds its color in a sunny room and hides everyday dust and pet hair better than a very dark or very light floor.
- At 5 inches a board, Sirocca lays about 29 boards across a 12 foot room.
- Engineered hardwood: living spaces and bedrooms on every level, kept out of full baths.
- Hardness: Black walnut: Janka 1,010 lbf (the force to press a steel ball halfway into the wood; a higher number dents less under heels and chair legs)
- Construction: Engineered (a real wood face over a stable core, so it moves less with the seasons)
