# Parchment Oak in a warm modern room

Parchment Oak, from the COREtec Originals Premium line, is a mid dark vinyl plank with a golden undertone (measured from its own picture: LRV 21). Here it is with Balboa Mist walls, Swiss Coffee trim and Naval as the deep note, chosen by the numbers.

## Measured from its own picture
- LRV (light reflectance value, 0 black to 100 white): 21
- CIELAB (D65): L* 53.2, a* 6.4, b* 15.8, chroma 17, hue 68 degrees
- Undertone: a golden undertone, warm without leaning red
- Parchment Oak has a gentle movement from board to board (a spread of 2.2 in L*): calm, but not flat.

## Paint
- Walls: Balboa Mist (Benjamin Moore OC-27, LRV 65.5, +44.3 from the floor). A soft neutral with a touch of warmth (hue 94°), so Parchment Oak stays golden without turning yellow. Source: https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-colors/color/oc-27/balboa-mist
- Or walls: Dover White (Sherwin-Williams SW 6385, LRV 82.5, +61.3 from the floor). A soft neutral with a touch of warmth (hue 93°), so Parchment Oak stays golden without turning yellow. Source: https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/white-paint-colors/sw6385-dover-white/
- Trim and ceilings: Swiss Coffee (Benjamin Moore OC-45, LRV 81.9). 61 points over Parchment Oak in LRV and warm enough (chroma 5.7) to read white, not blue, beside its golden undertone. Source: https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-colors/color/oc-45/swiss-coffee
- Deep note: Naval (Sherwin-Williams SW 6244, LRV 4.5). Deep and cool, about 165° around the color wheel from Parchment Oak and 17 points darker in LRV, so each makes the other look richer. Source: https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/blue-paint-colors/sw6244-naval/
- Lower cabinets or an island in Naval, uppers and trim in Swiss Coffee. The floor at LRV 21 sits between the two (5 and 82).

## Wood, rugs and metals
- Wood a step darker: a charcoal wood, like our Heritage Brown stain sample. About 18 points darker than Parchment Oak in L* (35 against 53), far enough to read as a choice.
- Wood a step lighter: a pale, bleached wood, like our Country White stain sample. About 19 points lighter than Parchment Oak in L* (72 against 53).
- Rug or fabric, tone on tone: oatmeal (#d5c7bd). 8 in chroma, half the warmth of Parchment Oak (17), and 28 points lighter in L*.
- Rug or fabric, across the wheel: graphite (#374955). Hue 248°, straight across the color wheel from the 68° of Parchment Oak, softened to balance it.
- Rug or fabric, grounding: charcoal (#3e362f). A deep note at L* 23, 30 points from the 53 of Parchment Oak, so a rug keeps its edge.
- Metal: aged brass. A warm metal that agrees with the golden undertone of Parchment Oak (hue 68°).
- Metal: unlacquered brass. Left unsealed, it darkens with handling to a softer warm tone beside Balboa Mist walls.
- Metal: matte black. Black works with every undertone; beside Parchment Oak at LRV 21 it gives the room its outline.

## Room by room
- Living room: Balboa Mist walls and Swiss Coffee trim around Parchment Oak, an oatmeal rug with a charcoal border, a coffee table in a charcoal wood, aged brass lamps.
- Kitchen: Naval on the island or the lower cabinets, Swiss Coffee uppers, unlacquered brass pulls, Parchment Oak underfoot.
- Bedroom: Dover White walls, bedding in oatmeal with one graphite pillow, nightstands in a pale, bleached wood.
- Entry: A charcoal runner on Parchment Oak, Naval on the front door, a matte black mirror.

## What to avoid
- Walls at the lightness of Parchment Oak: Retreat (Sherwin-Williams SW 6207, LRV 20.9) sits within a point of its LRV of 21, so wall and floor would blur into one.
- Wood that almost matches Parchment Oak: a tone like our Rustic Beige sample, 1.7 apart (CIEDE2000), reads as a near miss. Go clearly darker or lighter.
- Walls that lean yellow: yellow on yellow flattens the golden undertone of Parchment Oak (hue 68°).

## The room it suits
- At LRV 21, Parchment Oak is mid dark: it is at its best in a big room with good light and warm lamps, and it shows dust, pet hair and fine scratches more than a mid tone.
- At 9 inches a board, Parchment Oak lays about 16 boards across a 12 foot room, so the room reads open with few seams.
- Parchment Oak is waterproof, so it belongs in kitchens, baths, mudrooms and basements as well as living spaces.
- Wear layer: 20 mil (about 0.51 mm of clear protection over the printed wood, the part that takes the traffic)
- Core: WPC, a wood plastic composite core (a little softer and quieter underfoot)
- Finish: UV Acrylic
- Water: Waterproof (the maker's word) (wet mopping is fine; a flood is not)

- Paint names, codes, hex and LRV as Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore publish them (each color links to its page).
- BS 8300-2:2018 asks for a difference of at least 30 LRV points between adjacent surfaces, such as a floor and a wall, so the surfaces read apart.
- The floor measured from its own picture in CIELAB (D65); the wood tones from our own photographs of 37 stains on oak.
