# Ligera Sandstone in a coastal room

Ligera Sandstone from the COREtec CT Plus Tile line is a mid tone vinyl tile with a soft greige undertone (measured from its own picture: LRV 37). Here it is with Greek Villa walls, Alabaster trim, and Distance as the deep note, chosen by the numbers.

## Measured from its own picture
- LRV (light reflectance value, 0 black to 100 white): 37
- CIELAB (D65): L* 66.9, a* 0.3, b* 8.8, chroma 8.8, hue 88 degrees
- Undertone: a greige: soft gray with a little warmth
- Ligera Sandstone is calm and even from board to board (a spread of 1.5 in L*), so it reads as one quiet plane.

## Paint
- Walls: Greek Villa (Sherwin-Williams SW 7551, LRV 84.2, +47.7 from the floor). A warm white or greige in the same soft family as Ligera Sandstone (hue 94° against its 88°). Source: https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/white-paint-colors/sw7551-greek-villa/
- Or walls: Simply White (Benjamin Moore OC-117, LRV 89.5, +53 from the floor). A warm white or greige in the same soft family as Ligera Sandstone (hue 110° against its 88°). Source: https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-colors/color/oc-117/simply-white
- Trim and ceilings: Alabaster (Sherwin-Williams SW 7008, LRV 82.2). 46 points over Ligera Sandstone in LRV and warm enough (chroma 5.3) to read white, not blue, beside its greige undertone. Source: https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/white-paint-colors/sw7008-alabaster/
- Deep note: Distance (Sherwin-Williams SW 6243, LRV 15.2). Deep and quiet, 21 points darker than Ligera Sandstone in LRV, a frame for a greige floor. Source: https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/blue-paint-colors/sw6243-distance/
- Lower cabinets or an island in Distance, uppers and trim in Alabaster. The floor at LRV 37 sits between the two (15 and 82).

## Wood, rugs and metals
- Wood a step darker: a warm gray brown wood, like our Warm Gray stain sample. About 19 points darker than Ligera Sandstone in L* (48 against 67), far enough to read as a choice.
- Wood a step lighter: black or painted pieces. Ligera Sandstone is lighter than any wood stain we photographed (L* 67), so contrast comes from black, painted or upholstered pieces.
- Rug or fabric, tone on tone: graphite (#504d47). 4 in chroma, half the warmth of Ligera Sandstone (9), and 34 points darker in L*.
- Rug or fabric, across the wheel: storm blue (#5c6676). Hue 268°, straight across the color wheel from the 88° of Ligera Sandstone, softened to balance it.
- Rug or fabric, grounding: mocha (#595752). A deep note at L* 37, 30 points from the 67 of Ligera Sandstone, so a rug keeps its edge.
- Metal: polished nickel. A bright nickel with a touch of warmth, for the greige undertone of Ligera Sandstone (chroma 8.8).
- Metal: champagne bronze. A warm metal that agrees with the greige undertone of Ligera Sandstone (hue 88°).
- Metal: brushed nickel. A soft satin nickel, quieter than chrome, for the greige of Ligera Sandstone.

## Room by room
- Living room: Greek Villa walls and Alabaster trim, a graphite rug in a flat weave on Ligera Sandstone, storm blue pillows, black or painted side tables.
- Kitchen: Alabaster cabinets with an island in Distance, polished nickel hardware, Ligera Sandstone underfoot.
- Bedroom: Simply White walls, graphite linen, a storm blue throw, champagne bronze on the lamps.
- Bath: Distance on the vanity, Alabaster walls, a mocha mat, brushed nickel fixtures.

## What to avoid
- Walls at the lightness of Ligera Sandstone: Debonair (Sherwin-Williams SW 9139, LRV 33.9) sits 3 points from its LRV of 37, so wall and floor would blur into one.
- Stark blue whites everywhere: a greige floor like Ligera Sandstone turns muddy beside them. Keep the whites a little warm.

## The room it suits
- At LRV 37, Ligera Sandstone is a mid tone: it holds its color in a sunny room and hides everyday dust and pet hair better than a very dark or very light floor.
- At 12 inches a tile, a 12 foot room is about 12 tiles across.
- Ligera Sandstone is waterproof, so it belongs in kitchens, baths, mudrooms and basements as well as living spaces.
- Wear layer: 20 mil (about 0.51 mm of clear protection over the printed design, the part that takes the traffic)
- Core: WPC, a wood plastic composite core (a little softer and quieter underfoot)
- Finish: UV Acrylic
- Water: Waterproof (the maker's word) (wet mopping is fine; a flood is not)

- Paint names, codes, hex and LRV as Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore publish them (each color links to its page).
- BS 8300-2:2018 asks for a difference of at least 30 LRV points between adjacent surfaces, such as a floor and a wall, so the surfaces read apart.
