Galveston Oak from the COREtec Pro Classics line is a mid dark vinyl plank with almost no undertone, with an LRV of 18 measured from its own picture. Here it is paired with Upward walls, Extra White trim, and Repose Gray cabinets, all chosen by the numbers.

## Measured from its own picture
- LRV (light reflectance value, 0 black to 100 white): 18
- CIELAB (D65): L* 49.1, a* 1.2, b* 4.4, chroma 4.6, hue 74.3 degrees
- Undertone: a near gray, with almost no warmth
- The grain and color of Galveston Oak move from board to board (a spread of 3.4 in L*), which helps hide everyday wear.

## Paint
- Walls: Upward (Sherwin-Williams SW 6239, LRV 57.4, +39.7 from the floor). A soft, cool leaning color (hue 246°) that keeps Galveston Oak crisp and gray. Source: https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/blue-paint-colors/sw6239-upward/
- Or walls: Stonington Gray (Benjamin Moore HC-170, LRV 59.4, +41.7 from the floor). A clean neutral (chroma 3.2) that keeps Galveston Oak crisp and gray. Source: https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-colors/color/hc-170/stonington-gray
- Trim and ceilings: Extra White (Sherwin-Williams SW 7006, LRV 85.9). 68 points over Galveston Oak in LRV, a clean white (chroma 2.6) that keeps Galveston Oak crisp. Source: https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/white-paint-colors/sw7006-extra-white/
- Cabinets: Repose Gray (Sherwin-Williams SW 7015, LRV 58.2). A light color with some life in it, so cabinets float off Galveston Oak (a 41 point step in LRV). Source: https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/neutral-paint-colors/sw7015-repose-gray/
- Cabinets in Repose Gray or Extra White: a dark floor needs light cabinets to float above it.

## Wood, rugs and metals
- Wood a step darker: a charcoal wood, like our Ebony stain sample. About 20 points darker than Galveston Oak in L* (29 against 49), far enough to read as a choice.
- Wood a step lighter: a pale, bleached wood, like our Natural stain sample. About 18 points lighter than Galveston Oak in L* (67 against 49).
- Rug or fabric, tone on tone: dove gray (#c1bebb). 2 in chroma, half the warmth of Galveston Oak (5), and 28 points lighter in L*.
- Rug or fabric, across the wheel: mist blue (#b2c3d2). Hue 254°, straight across the color wheel from the 74° of Galveston Oak, softened to balance it.
- Rug or fabric, grounding: charcoal (#32302e). A deep note at L* 20, 29 points from the 49 of Galveston Oak, so a rug keeps its edge.
- Metal: matte black. Black works with every undertone; beside Galveston Oak at LRV 18 it gives the room its outline.
- Metal: polished nickel. A bright nickel with a touch of warmth, for the gray undertone of Galveston Oak (chroma 4.6).
- Metal: chrome. The brightest and coolest finish, crisp against Galveston Oak at chroma 4.6.

## Room by room
- Living room: Upward walls and Extra White trim, a low table in a pale, bleached wood on Galveston Oak, a dove gray rug, one mist blue cushion.
- Kitchen: Cabinets in Repose Gray so they float off Galveston Oak, Extra White walls and trim, polished nickel pulls.
- Bedroom: Stonington Gray walls, a low bed in a charcoal wood, dove gray linen, polished nickel in small doses.
- Entry: A bench in a pale, bleached wood, a charcoal mat on Galveston Oak, chrome hooks.

## What to avoid
- Walls at the lightness of Galveston Oak: Gauntlet Gray (Sherwin-Williams SW 7019, LRV 17.4) sits within a point of its LRV of 18, so wall and floor would blur into one.
- Wood that almost matches Galveston Oak: a tone like our Dark Gray sample, 4.9 apart (CIEDE2000), reads as a near miss. Go clearly darker or lighter.
- Whites that lean yellow: beside Galveston Oak, a near gray, they look dingy.

## The room it suits
- At LRV 18, Galveston Oak is mid dark: it is at its best in a big room with good light and warm lamps, and it shows dust, pet hair and fine scratches more than a mid tone.
- At 7 inches a board, Galveston Oak lays about 21 boards across a 12 foot room, so the room reads open with few seams.
- Galveston Oak is waterproof, so it belongs in kitchens, baths, mudrooms and basements as well as living spaces.
- Wear layer: 20 mil (about 0.51 mm of clear protection over the printed wood, the part that takes the traffic)
- Core: SPC, a rigid stone polymer core (firm underfoot and resists dents from furniture)
- Finish: UV Acrylic
- Water: Waterproof (the maker's word) (wet mopping is fine; a flood is not)

## Sources
- Paint names, codes, hex and LRV as Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore publish them (each color links to its page).
- BS 8300-2:2018 asks for a difference of at least 30 LRV points between adjacent surfaces, such as a floor and a wall, so the surfaces read apart.
- The floor measured from its own picture in CIELAB (D65); the wood tones from our own photographs of 37 stains on oak.
