# Copano Oak in a modern farmhouse room

Copano Oak, from the COREtec Pro Classics line, is a mid tone vinyl plank with a golden undertone (measured from its own picture: LRV 24). Here it is with Simply White walls, Swiss Coffee trim and Wrought Iron as the deep note, chosen by the numbers.

## Measured from its own picture
- LRV (light reflectance value, 0 black to 100 white): 24
- CIELAB (D65): L* 55.9, a* 3.5, b* 16.5, chroma 16.9, hue 78 degrees
- Undertone: a golden undertone, warm without leaning red
- Copano Oak has a gentle movement from board to board (a spread of 2.1 in L*): calm, but not flat.

## Paint
- Walls: Simply White (Benjamin Moore OC-117, LRV 89.5, +65.7 from the floor). A soft neutral with a touch of warmth (hue 110°), so Copano Oak stays golden without turning yellow. Source: https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-colors/color/oc-117/simply-white
- Or walls: Dover White (Sherwin-Williams SW 6385, LRV 82.5, +58.7 from the floor). A soft neutral with a touch of warmth (hue 93°), so Copano Oak stays golden without turning yellow. Source: https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/white-paint-colors/sw6385-dover-white/
- Trim and ceilings: Swiss Coffee (Benjamin Moore OC-45, LRV 81.9). 58 points over Copano Oak in LRV and warm enough (chroma 5.7) to read white, not blue, beside its golden undertone. Source: https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-colors/color/oc-45/swiss-coffee
- Deep note: Wrought Iron (Benjamin Moore 2124-10, LRV 8.2). Deep and quiet, 16 points darker than Copano Oak in LRV, a frame for a golden floor. Source: https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-colors/color/2124-10/wrought-iron
- Lower cabinets or an island in Wrought Iron, uppers and trim in Swiss Coffee. The floor at LRV 24 sits between the two (8 and 82).

## Wood, rugs and metals
- Wood a step darker: a charcoal wood, like our Heritage Brown stain sample. About 21 points darker than Copano Oak in L* (35 against 56), far enough to read as a choice.
- Wood a step lighter: a pale, bleached wood, like our Country White stain sample. About 16 points lighter than Copano Oak in L* (72 against 56).
- Rug or fabric, tone on tone: linen (#dad0c3). 8 in chroma, half the warmth of Copano Oak (17), and 28 points lighter in L*.
- Rug or fabric, across the wheel: graphite (#3e4d5a). Hue 258°, straight across the color wheel from the 78° of Copano Oak, softened to balance it.
- Rug or fabric, grounding: charcoal (#433c35). A deep note at L* 26, 30 points from the 56 of Copano Oak, so a rug keeps its edge.
- Metal: matte black. Black works with every undertone; beside Copano Oak at LRV 24 it gives the room its outline.
- Metal: aged brass. A warm metal that agrees with the golden undertone of Copano Oak (hue 78°).
- Metal: unlacquered brass. Left unsealed, it darkens with handling to a softer warm tone beside Simply White walls.

## Room by room
- Living room: Simply White walls and Swiss Coffee trim, a linen rug with a charcoal edge on Copano Oak, a coffee table in a charcoal wood.
- Kitchen: Wrought Iron on the island, Swiss Coffee cabinets above, matte black pulls, Copano Oak underfoot.
- Dining room: A table in a charcoal wood on Copano Oak, chairs in a pale, bleached wood, aged brass pendants.
- Bedroom: Dover White walls, linen linen, a graphite quilt, unlacquered brass on the lamps.

## What to avoid
- Walls at the lightness of Copano Oak: Retreat (Sherwin-Williams SW 6207, LRV 20.9) sits 3 points from its LRV of 24, so wall and floor would blur into one.
- Wood that almost matches Copano Oak: a tone like our Rustic Beige sample, 4.3 apart (CIEDE2000), reads as a near miss. Go clearly darker or lighter.
- Walls that lean yellow: yellow on yellow flattens the golden undertone of Copano Oak (hue 78°).

## The room it suits
- At LRV 24, Copano Oak is a mid tone: it holds its color in a sunny room and hides everyday dust and pet hair better than a very dark or very light floor.
- At 7 inches a board, Copano Oak lays about 21 boards across a 12 foot room, so the room reads open with few seams.
- Copano Oak is waterproof, so it belongs in kitchens, baths, mudrooms and basements as well as living spaces.
- Wear layer: 20 mil (about 0.51 mm of clear protection over the printed wood, the part that takes the traffic)
- Core: SPC, a rigid stone polymer core (firm underfoot and resists dents from furniture)
- Finish: UV Acrylic
- Water: Waterproof (the maker's word) (wet mopping is fine; a flood is not)

- Paint names, codes, hex and LRV as Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore publish them (each color links to its page).
- BS 8300-2:2018 asks for a difference of at least 30 LRV points between adjacent surfaces, such as a floor and a wall, so the surfaces read apart.
