# Classic Travertine in a coastal room

Classic Travertine from the COREtec Enduring Base line is a very light vinyl tile with a soft greige undertone (measured from its own picture: LRV 68). Here it is with Debonair walls, Greek Villa trim, and Still Water as the deep note, chosen by the numbers.

## Measured from its own picture
- LRV (light reflectance value, 0 black to 100 white): 68
- CIELAB (D65): L* 86, a* 1.3, b* 8.7, chroma 8.8, hue 81.6 degrees
- Undertone: a greige: soft gray with a little warmth
- Classic Travertine is calm and even from board to board (a spread of 1.3 in L*), so it reads as one quiet plane.

## Paint
- Walls: Debonair (Sherwin-Williams SW 9139, LRV 33.9, -34.1 from the floor). A quiet neutral beside a soft floor. Source: https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/blue-paint-colors/sw9139-debonair/
- Or walls: Simply White (Benjamin Moore OC-117, LRV 89.5, +21.5 from the floor). A warm white or greige in the same soft family as Classic Travertine (hue 110° against its 82°). Source: https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-colors/color/oc-117/simply-white
- Trim and ceilings: Greek Villa (Sherwin-Williams SW 7551, LRV 84.2). 16 points over Classic Travertine in LRV and warm enough (chroma 5.3) to read white, not blue, beside its greige undertone. Source: https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/white-paint-colors/sw7551-greek-villa/
- Deep note: Still Water (Sherwin-Williams SW 6223, LRV 10.1). Deep and quiet, 58 points darker than Classic Travertine in LRV, a frame for a greige floor. Source: https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/blue-paint-colors/sw6223-still-water/
- Lower cabinets or an island in Still Water, uppers and trim in Greek Villa. The floor at LRV 68 sits between the two (10 and 84).

## Wood, rugs and metals
- Wood a step darker: a pale, bleached wood, like our Natural stain sample. About 19 points darker than Classic Travertine in L* (67 against 86), far enough to read as a choice.
- Wood a step lighter: black or painted pieces. Classic Travertine is lighter than any wood stain we photographed (L* 86), so contrast comes from black, painted or upholstered pieces.
- Rug or fabric, tone on tone: pewter (#807b75). 4 in chroma, half the warmth of Classic Travertine (9), and 34 points darker in L*.
- Rug or fabric, across the wheel: slate blue (#8a97a7). Hue 262°, straight across the color wheel from the 82° of Classic Travertine, softened to balance it.
- Rug or fabric, grounding: smoke (#898681). A deep note at L* 56, 30 points from the 86 of Classic Travertine, so a rug keeps its edge.
- Metal: polished nickel. A bright nickel with a touch of warmth, for the greige undertone of Classic Travertine (chroma 8.8).
- Metal: champagne bronze. A warm metal that agrees with the greige undertone of Classic Travertine (hue 82°).
- Metal: brushed nickel. A soft satin nickel, quieter than chrome, for the greige of Classic Travertine.

## Room by room
- Living room: Debonair walls and Greek Villa trim, a pewter rug in a flat weave on Classic Travertine, slate blue pillows, black or painted side tables.
- Kitchen: Greek Villa cabinets with an island in Still Water, polished nickel hardware, Classic Travertine underfoot.
- Bedroom: Simply White walls, pewter linen, a slate blue throw, champagne bronze on the lamps.
- Bath: Still Water on the vanity, Greek Villa walls, a smoke mat, brushed nickel fixtures.

## What to avoid
- Walls at the lightness of Classic Travertine: Pale Oak (Benjamin Moore OC-20, LRV 68.6) sits within a point of its LRV of 68, so wall and floor would blur into one.
- Stark blue whites everywhere: a greige floor like Classic Travertine turns muddy beside them. Keep the whites a little warm.

## The room it suits
- At LRV 68, Classic Travertine is very light: it bounces light back into the room, suits north facing rooms, basements and small rooms, and shows dark grit more than lint.
- At 12 inches a tile, a 12 foot room is about 12 tiles across.
- Classic Travertine is waterproof, so it belongs in kitchens, baths, mudrooms and basements as well as living spaces.
- Wear layer: 20 mil (about 0.51 mm of clear protection over the printed design, the part that takes the traffic)
- Core: SPC, a rigid stone polymer core (firm underfoot and resists dents from furniture)
- Finish: UV Acrylic
- Water: Waterproof (the maker's word) (wet mopping is fine; a flood is not)

- Paint names, codes, hex and LRV as Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore publish them (each color links to its page).
- BS 8300-2:2018 asks for a difference of at least 30 LRV points between adjacent surfaces, such as a floor and a wall, so the surfaces read apart.
