# Bosc Oak in a coastal room

Bosc Oak, from the COREtec CT HD 7x60 INTG line, is a mid tone vinyl plank with a soft greige undertone (measured from its own picture: LRV 34). Here it is with Balboa Mist walls, Swiss Coffee trim, and Cascades as the deep note, chosen by the numbers.

## Measured from its own picture
- LRV (light reflectance value, 0 black to 100 white): 34
- CIELAB (D65): L* 65.2, a* 3.9, b* 11.8, chroma 12.4, hue 71.7 degrees
- Undertone: a greige: soft gray with a little warmth
- Bosc Oak is calm and even from board to board (a spread of 1.5 in L*), so it reads as one quiet plane.

## Paint
- Walls: Balboa Mist (Benjamin Moore OC-27, LRV 65.5, +31.2 from the floor). A warm white or greige in the same soft family as Bosc Oak (hue 94° against its 72°). Source: https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-colors/color/oc-27/balboa-mist
- Or walls: Dover White (Sherwin-Williams SW 6385, LRV 82.5, +48.2 from the floor). A warm white or greige in the same soft family as Bosc Oak (hue 93° against its 72°). Source: https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/white-paint-colors/sw6385-dover-white/
- Trim and ceilings: Swiss Coffee (Benjamin Moore OC-45, LRV 81.9). 48 points over Bosc Oak in LRV and warm enough (chroma 5.7) to read white, not blue, beside its greige undertone. Source: https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-colors/color/oc-45/swiss-coffee
- Deep note: Cascades (Sherwin-Williams SW 7623, LRV 4.2). Deep and quiet, 30 points darker than Bosc Oak in LRV, a frame for a greige floor. Source: https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/green-paint-colors/sw7623-cascades/
- Lower cabinets or an island in Cascades, uppers and trim in Swiss Coffee. The floor at LRV 34 sits between the two (4 and 82).

## Wood, rugs and metals
- Wood a step darker: a smoky gray brown wood, like our Dark Gray stain sample. About 20 points darker than Bosc Oak in L* (45 against 65), far enough to read as a choice.
- Wood a step lighter: black or painted pieces. Bosc Oak is lighter than any wood stain we photographed (L* 65), so contrast comes from black, painted or upholstered pieces.
- Rug or fabric, tone on tone: walnut brown (#504841). 6 in chroma, half the warmth of Bosc Oak (12), and 34 points darker in L*.
- Rug or fabric, across the wheel: storm blue (#526370). Hue 252°, straight across the color wheel from the 72° of Bosc Oak, softened to balance it.
- Rug or fabric, grounding: graphite (#58524c). A deep note at L* 35, 30 points from the 65 of Bosc Oak, so a rug keeps its edge.
- Metal: polished nickel. A bright nickel with a touch of warmth, for the greige undertone of Bosc Oak (chroma 12.4).
- Metal: champagne bronze. A warm metal that agrees with the greige undertone of Bosc Oak (hue 72°).
- Metal: brushed nickel. A soft satin nickel, quieter than chrome, for the greige of Bosc Oak.

## Room by room
- Living room: Balboa Mist walls and Swiss Coffee trim, a walnut brown rug in a flat weave on Bosc Oak, storm blue pillows, black or painted side tables.
- Kitchen: Swiss Coffee cabinets with an island in Cascades, polished nickel hardware, Bosc Oak underfoot.
- Bedroom: Dover White walls, walnut brown linen, a storm blue throw, champagne bronze on the lamps.
- Bath: Cascades on the vanity, Swiss Coffee walls, a graphite mat, brushed nickel fixtures.

## What to avoid
- Walls at the lightness of Bosc Oak: Debonair (Sherwin-Williams SW 9139, LRV 33.9) sits within a point of its LRV of 34, so wall and floor would blur into one.
- Wood that almost matches Bosc Oak: a tone like our Country White sample, 5.6 apart (CIEDE2000), reads as a near miss. Go clearly darker or lighter.
- Stark blue whites everywhere: a greige floor like Bosc Oak turns muddy beside them. Keep the whites a little warm.

## The room it suits
- At LRV 34, Bosc Oak is a mid tone: it holds its color in a sunny room and hides everyday dust and pet hair better than a very dark or very light floor.
- At 7 inches a board, Bosc Oak lays about 21 boards across a 12 foot room, so the room reads open with few seams.
- Bosc Oak is waterproof, so it belongs in kitchens, baths, mudrooms and basements as well as living spaces.
- Wear layer: 20 mil (about 0.51 mm of clear protection over the printed wood, the part that takes the traffic)
- Core: WPC, a wood plastic composite core (a little softer and quieter underfoot)
- Finish: UV Acrylic
- Water: Waterproof (the maker's word) (wet mopping is fine; a flood is not)

- Paint names, codes, hex and LRV as Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore publish them (each color links to its page).
- BS 8300-2:2018 asks for a difference of at least 30 LRV points between adjacent surfaces, such as a floor and a wall, so the surfaces read apart.
