# Blonde Oak in a modern farmhouse room

Blonde Oak from the COREtec Originals Premium line is a mid tone vinyl plank with a golden undertone (LRV 31, measured from its own picture). Here it looks great with Alabaster walls, Greek Villa trim, and Black as the deep note.

## Measured from its own picture
- LRV (light reflectance value, 0 black to 100 white): 31
- CIELAB (D65): L* 62.1, a* 6.8, b* 19.8, chroma 21, hue 71.2 degrees
- Undertone: a golden undertone, warm without leaning red
- Blonde Oak has a gentle movement from board to board (a spread of 2.4 in L*): calm, but not flat.

## Paint
- Walls: Alabaster (Sherwin-Williams SW 7008, LRV 82.2, +51.7 from the floor). A soft neutral with a touch of warmth (hue 98°), so Blonde Oak stays golden without turning yellow. Source: https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/white-paint-colors/sw7008-alabaster/
- Or walls: Simply White (Benjamin Moore OC-117, LRV 89.5, +59 from the floor). A soft neutral with a touch of warmth (hue 110°), so Blonde Oak stays golden without turning yellow. Source: https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-colors/color/oc-117/simply-white
- Trim and ceilings: Greek Villa (Sherwin-Williams SW 7551, LRV 84.2). 54 points over Blonde Oak in LRV and warm enough (chroma 5.3) to read white, not blue, beside its golden undertone. Source: https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/white-paint-colors/sw7551-greek-villa/
- Deep note: Black (Benjamin Moore HC-190, LRV 4.6). Deep and quiet, 26 points darker than Blonde Oak in LRV, a frame for a golden floor. Source: https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-colors/color/hc-190/black
- Lower cabinets or an island in Black, uppers and trim in Greek Villa. The floor at LRV 31 sits between the two (5 and 84).

## Wood, rugs and metals
- Wood a step darker: a mid brown wood, like our Aged Barrel stain sample. About 20 points darker than Blonde Oak in L* (42 against 62), far enough to read as a choice.
- Wood a step lighter: black or painted pieces. Blonde Oak is lighter than any wood stain we photographed (L* 62), so contrast comes from black, painted or upholstered pieces.
- Rug or fabric, tone on tone: walnut brown (#4c4035). 9 in chroma, half the warmth of Blonde Oak (21), and 34 points darker in L*.
- Rug or fabric, across the wheel: storm blue (#4b5c69). Hue 251°, straight across the color wheel from the 71° of Blonde Oak, softened to balance it.
- Rug or fabric, grounding: mocha (#544a41). A deep note at L* 32, 30 points from the 62 of Blonde Oak, so a rug keeps its edge.
- Metal: matte black. Black works with every undertone; beside Blonde Oak at LRV 31 it gives the room its outline.
- Metal: aged brass. A warm metal that agrees with the golden undertone of Blonde Oak (hue 71°).
- Metal: unlacquered brass. Left unsealed, it darkens with handling to a softer warm tone beside Alabaster walls.

## Room by room
- Living room: Alabaster walls and Greek Villa trim, a walnut brown rug with a mocha edge on Blonde Oak, a coffee table in a mid brown wood.
- Kitchen: Black on the island, Greek Villa cabinets above, matte black pulls, Blonde Oak underfoot.
- Dining room: A table in a mid brown wood on Blonde Oak, black or painted chairs, aged brass pendants.
- Bedroom: Simply White walls, walnut brown linen, a storm blue quilt, unlacquered brass on the lamps.

## What to avoid
- Walls at the lightness of Blonde Oak: Evergreen Fog (Sherwin-Williams SW 9130, LRV 30.4) sits within a point of its LRV of 31, so wall and floor would blur into one.
- Wood that almost matches Blonde Oak: a tone like our Silvered Gray sample, 1.9 apart (CIEDE2000), reads as a near miss. Go clearly darker or lighter.
- Walls that lean yellow: yellow on yellow flattens the golden undertone of Blonde Oak (hue 71°).

## The room it suits
- At LRV 31, Blonde Oak is a mid tone: it holds its color in a sunny room and hides everyday dust and pet hair better than a very dark or very light floor.
- At 9 inches a board, Blonde Oak lays about 16 boards across a 12 foot room, so the room reads open with few seams.
- Blonde Oak is waterproof, so it belongs in kitchens, baths, mudrooms and basements as well as living spaces.
- Wear layer: 20 mil (about 0.51 mm of clear protection over the printed wood, the part that takes the traffic)
- Core: WPC, a wood plastic composite core (a little softer and quieter underfoot)
- Finish: UV Acrylic
- Water: Waterproof (the maker's word) (wet mopping is fine; a flood is not)

## Sources
- Paint names, codes, hex and LRV as Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore publish them (each color links to its page).
- BS 8300-2:2018 asks for a difference of at least 30 LRV points between adjacent surfaces, such as a floor and a wall, so the surfaces read apart.
- The floor measured from its own picture in CIELAB (D65); the wood tones from our own photographs of 37 stains on oak.
