# Blended Praline in a modern farmhouse room

Blended Praline from the COREtec Originals Premium line is a mid tone vinyl plank with a golden undertone, measured from its own picture with LRV 35. Here it is with Simply White walls, Alabaster trim and Pewter Green as the deep note, chosen by the numbers.

## Measured from its own picture
- LRV (light reflectance value, 0 black to 100 white): 35
- CIELAB (D65): L* 65.5, a* 6.6, b* 22.6, chroma 23.5, hue 73.8 degrees
- Undertone: a golden undertone, warm without leaning red
- Blended Praline has a gentle movement from board to board (a spread of 2.3 in L*): calm, but not flat.

## Paint
- Walls: Simply White (Benjamin Moore OC-117, LRV 89.5, +54.8 from the floor). A soft neutral with a touch of warmth (hue 110°), so Blended Praline stays golden without turning yellow. Source: https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-colors/color/oc-117/simply-white
- Or walls: Dover White (Sherwin-Williams SW 6385, LRV 82.5, +47.8 from the floor). A soft neutral with a touch of warmth (hue 93°), so Blended Praline stays golden without turning yellow. Source: https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/white-paint-colors/sw6385-dover-white/
- Trim and ceilings: Alabaster (Sherwin-Williams SW 7008, LRV 82.2). 48 points over Blended Praline in LRV and warm enough (chroma 5.3) to read white, not blue, beside its golden undertone. Source: https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/white-paint-colors/sw7008-alabaster/
- Deep note: Pewter Green (Sherwin-Williams SW 6208, LRV 11.8). Deep and quiet, 23 points darker than Blended Praline in LRV, a frame for a golden floor. Source: https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/green-paint-colors/sw6208-pewter-green/
- Lower cabinets or an island in Pewter Green, uppers and trim in Alabaster. The floor at LRV 35 sits between the two (12 and 82).

## Wood, rugs and metals
- Wood a step darker: a smoky gray brown wood, like our Dark Gray stain sample. About 20 points darker than Blended Praline in L* (45 against 66), far enough to read as a choice.
- Wood a step lighter: black or painted pieces. Blended Praline is lighter than any wood stain we photographed (L* 66), so contrast comes from black, painted or upholstered pieces.
- Rug or fabric, tone on tone: walnut brown (#55483a). 11 in chroma, half the warmth of Blended Praline (24), and 34 points darker in L*.
- Rug or fabric, across the wheel: storm blue (#546471). Hue 254°, straight across the color wheel from the 74° of Blended Praline, softened to balance it.
- Rug or fabric, grounding: mocha (#5c5247). A deep note at L* 36, 30 points from the 66 of Blended Praline, so a rug keeps its edge.
- Metal: matte black. Black works with every undertone; beside Blended Praline at LRV 35 it gives the room its outline.
- Metal: aged brass. A warm metal that agrees with the golden undertone of Blended Praline (hue 74°).
- Metal: unlacquered brass. A warm metal that agrees with the golden undertone of Blended Praline (hue 74°).

## What to avoid
- Walls at the lightness of Blended Praline: Debonair (Sherwin-Williams SW 9139, LRV 33.9) sits within a point of its LRV of 35, so wall and floor would blur into one.
- Wood that almost matches Blended Praline: a tone like our Silvered Gray sample, 4.8 apart (CIEDE2000), reads as a near miss. Go clearly darker or lighter.
- Creamy yellow walls: yellow on yellow flattens the golden undertone of Blended Praline (hue 74°).

## The room it suits
- At LRV 35, Blended Praline is a mid tone: it holds its color in a sunny room and hides everyday dust and pet hair better than a very dark or very light floor.
- At 7 inches a board, Blended Praline lays about 21 boards across a 12 foot room, so the room reads open with few seams.
- Blended Praline is waterproof, so it belongs in kitchens, baths, mudrooms and basements as well as living spaces.
- Wear layer: 20 mil (about 0.51 mm of clear protection over the printed wood, the part that takes the traffic)
- Core: WPC, a wood plastic composite core (a little softer and quieter underfoot)
- Finish: UV Acrylic
- Water: Waterproof (the maker's word) (wet mopping is fine; a flood is not)

## Sources
- Paint names, codes, hex and LRV as Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore publish them (each color links to its page).
- BS 8300-2:2018 asks for a difference of at least 30 LRV points between adjacent surfaces, such as a floor and a wall, so the surfaces read apart.
- The floor measured from its own picture in CIELAB (D65); the wood tones from our own photographs of 37 stains on oak.
