# Amani Marble in a coastal room

Amani Marble, from the COREtec Enduring Base line, is a light vinyl tile with almost no undertone (measured from its own picture: LRV 46). Here it is with Cloud White walls, Extra White trim and Newburg Green as the deep note, chosen by the numbers.

## Measured from its own picture

- CIELAB (D65): L* 73.7, a* 0.4, b* 2, chroma 2, hue 79.5 degrees
- Undertone: a near gray, with almost no warmth
- Amani Marble has a gentle movement from board to board (a spread of 2.1 in L*): calm, but not flat.

## Paint
- Walls: Cloud White (Benjamin Moore OC-130, LRV 85.1, +38.9 from the floor). A soft, cool leaning color (hue 106°) that keeps Amani Marble crisp and gray. Source: https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-colors/color/oc-130/cloud-white
- Or walls: Snowbound (Sherwin-Williams SW 7004, LRV 82.8, +36.6 from the floor). A clean neutral (chroma 2.8) that keeps Amani Marble crisp and gray. Source: https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/white-paint-colors/sw7004-snowbound/
- Trim and ceilings: Extra White (Sherwin-Williams SW 7006, LRV 85.9). 40 points over Amani Marble in LRV, a clean white (chroma 2.6) that keeps Amani Marble crisp. Source: https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/white-paint-colors/sw7006-extra-white/
- Deep note: Newburg Green (Benjamin Moore HC-158, LRV 10.6). Deep and quiet, 36 points darker than Amani Marble in LRV, a frame for a gray floor. Source: https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-colors/color/hc-158/newburg-green
- Lower cabinets or an island in Newburg Green, uppers and trim in Extra White. The floor at LRV 46 sits between the two (11 and 86).

## Wood, rugs and metals
- Wood a step darker: a honey tone, like our Rustic Beige stain sample. About 19 points darker than Amani Marble in L* (55 against 74), far enough to read as a choice.
- Wood a step lighter: black or painted pieces. Amani Marble is lighter than any wood stain we photographed (L* 74), so contrast comes from black, painted or upholstered pieces.
- Rug or fabric, tone on tone: graphite (#5e5d5c). 1 in chroma, half the warmth of Amani Marble (2), and 34 points darker in L*.
- Rug or fabric, across the wheel: slate blue (#6a7887). Hue 260°, straight across the color wheel from the 80° of Amani Marble, softened to balance it.
- Rug or fabric, grounding: storm blue (#686766). A deep note at L* 44, 30 points from the 74 of Amani Marble, so a rug keeps its edge.
- Metal: polished nickel. A bright nickel with a touch of warmth, for the gray undertone of Amani Marble (chroma 2.0).
- Metal: chrome. The brightest and coolest finish, crisp against Amani Marble at chroma 2.0.
- Metal: matte black. Black works with every undertone; beside Amani Marble at LRV 46 it gives the room its outline.

## What to avoid
- Walls at the lightness of Amani Marble: October Mist (Benjamin Moore 1495, LRV 46.5) sits within a point of its LRV of 46, so wall and floor would blur into one.
- Creamy or yellow whites: beside Amani Marble, a near gray, they look dingy.

## The room it suits
- At LRV 46, Amani Marble is light: it bounces light back into the room, suits north facing rooms, basements and small rooms, and shows dark grit more than lint.
- At 12 inches a tile, a 12 foot room is about 12 tiles across.
- Amani Marble is waterproof, so it belongs in kitchens, baths, mudrooms and basements as well as living spaces.
- Wear layer: 20 mil (about 0.51 mm of clear protection over the printed design, the part that takes the traffic)
- Core: SPC, a rigid stone polymer core (firm underfoot and resists dents from furniture)
- Finish: UV Acrylic
- Water: Waterproof (the maker's word) (wet mopping is fine; a flood is not)

- BS 8300-2:2018 asks for a difference of at least 30 LRV points between adjacent surfaces, such as a floor and a wall, so the surfaces read apart.
